Holiday Living Room Tour

Hi and welcome to our Bloggers Holiday Living Room Tour!  If this is your first time visiting Our Vintage Nest or you’re a regular reader… I’m glad you’re here!  Special thanks to Sandra at The Rustic Life for organizing this fun tour!

It’s been a crazy four weeks of moving in and getting settled into our new home.  Our living room is the first room I tackled and I love how it’s transformed for the holidays… Our favorite time of year!

We’re excited to finally share our decorated living rooms with you!  So, grab your favorite steamed beverage and enjoy the tour! shiplap-living-roomWelcome to our grand living room with vaulted ceilings and shiplap accent wall.  I designed this room with our builders carpenter, adding 9-foot built-ins on each side with shiplap above and surrounding the mantle. You can read more about our home choices in my “Design Details” post.  We love the exposed beams; they add so much character in this room!  It’s been fun to see it come to life after months of anticipation and a bonus to be able to immediately decorate for Christmas!  vaulted-ceiling-and-exposed-beamsHere are a few close-ups of some details I’ve added… Lots of neutrals and textures!cherished-nativity-sceneThis nativity scene was one of the first purchases I made when I was a newlywed and I love it more and more every year!  I love the intricate details and the faceless figures, it’s the first piece I set out and the last to be put away until next year.  stone-fireplace-and-hearth-with-stockingsI’ve always wanted a hearth to display things like rustic olive buckets and lanterns.  But mostly, for that memorable Christmas picture of my kids that we can look back on years from now.flocked-christmas-tree-and-buffalo-curtainsThis flocked tree from King Of Christmas is a dream come true!  I’ve always loved the look of them and now that we own one… I’m in love!  It doesn’t take much to decorate this beauty!  In fact, it sat bare for two weeks before I adorned it with ornaments.  I went with a neutral and natural elements theme this year. Birch wood ribbon, birdhouses, berry picks, pinecones, snowflakes and sparkly burlap ribbon.  The top is a combination of picks I added to make it look more full and beautiful.flocked-christmas-tree-and-topperBelieve it or not, these buffalo check curtains were hung just a few days ago!  I just love the warmth and feel they bring to this room!
merry-christmas-bannerThis sweet “Have a Very Merry Christmas” banner from Pottery Barn is the perfect touch to our 9-foot flocked tree.  I get a lot of questions about the Love is Patient sign above our mantle.  It was made by the sweet and talented, Tara at Between You And Me Signs!
styled-holiday-book-shelvesThese bookshelves were so fun to style!  I added subtle pops of green and red throughout, and of course my vintage treasures take the spotlight!  I love how the white makes everything stand out!  stockings-were-hung-by-the-chimneyI love our stockings this year!  I made the dark gray stocking from an old sweater and the others are from HomeGoods and Target!  The beautiful metallic felt ball garland is from my sweet friend, Megan at Sheep Farm Felt.stone-fireplace-and-hearth

tufted-chair-and-chunky-throwI hope you’ve enjoyed my holiday living room tour!  Be sure to visit my talented friends who have opened their homes to share their festive spaces!

What a lovely home! I just checked out your blog for the first time and I already have so many ideas. We just started building our new home and my color selections, cabinet colors, and flooring are almost identical. Seeing your results make me excited and gives me confidence in my design choices. Question, how were you able to contract with a carpenter? We are using a production builder and I wanted a shiplap wall, but assumed I would have to do it on my own after our home was built.

Hi… The carpenter was assigned to me through the builder. We purchased a custom home, so these were just a few perks, I suppose. I wouldn’t hesitate to ask your builder to do certain things and see what they quote you. You may be surprised what they will do for you! Good luck and I’m glad my design choices have helped you!

Very pretty! I love the garland you hung on your barrel chandelier above your dining room table. I have the same light. Where would I find that garland? Also the boxwood wreaths you posted on instagram on your kitchen cabinet doors…where could I find those?

Hi Kim… The garland around my light came from a place in Arlington, TX called Decorators Warehouse. The boxwood wreaths are sourced through a link on IG. When you sign-up for LikeToKnow. It, they send you emails with links to shop every time you like a post. Hope that helps and thanks for your interest!

Im so happy I found your blog! You came up as a suggested post on instagram and I cant believe how similar our homes are! We just moved into a new construction that we designed as well, and our kitchen and living room is very very similar! Do you design virtually? Would love to get your thoughts since our layout so close to yours.

Hi Shannon… Thanks so much! We based our plans off of a design photo I found on one of my favorite blogs. I believe the inspo photo is posted on my IG feed in late 2016. Hope that helps.

Hi Alicia, you have great style for decorating your home…it’s so well put together! I’ve been inspired by your IG posts and benefited from many of the sources you’ve shared. I am having cedar beams installed in my home but struggling with the stain color. What stain did you use for yours? I too am using Agreeable Gray for my great room.

Hi Janet… I’m afraid I don’t have the stain color for our beams. They stain matched them with our flooring. I would ask your builder to match your floor color. Hope that helps!

About Alicia

Alicia of Our Vintage Nest

My name is Alicia Armstrong; thank you for being here!
Ever since I can remember, I've been exposed to interior decorating. Watching my mom decorate and antique shop is a vivid childhood memory. Since starting this blog in 2016, my taste in decor has evolved to a more refined style. I've never leaned toward trendy, but more of a classic and timeless style. I enjoy shopping my home and changing things up to update a space. I love working on relatively simple projects and seeing a piece of furniture or room transform on a small budget. We purchased a new home four years ago and while there's nothing that needs to be renovated, I'm constantly finding something to enhance. I've painted several rooms, added shiplap, designed built-ins for a homework station and updated builder grade tile since moving here in 2016.
I've been married to my husband, Chris for 20 years. He works as an IT engineer for a small business. We have two children and reside in NW Arkansas. We are a Christian family who desires to live a life with Christ at the center. We have two animals, a Golden Retriever, Paisley and a blue point Ragdoll, Angel. They definitely complete our family and bring us a lot of joy!
I'm happy you've found Our Vintage Nest, where I share inspiration for all things home. I hope to inspire you to love your home, re-purpose what you have through simple DIY and learn some practical design tips along the way.
